IMVU - It is (or at least WAS! before the access pass fiasco... sigh!) the Ultimate Fantasy Site. Where you can (or could) dress up as anyone you like... furry, male or female, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Robin the boy wonder, pirate, mad hatter, priest, jock, demon, Robin Hood, starfleet officer, you name it... and live out your fantasy. (Just check out my picture gallery if you want to see some of my costumes). Some people don't like the way some dress here. They are frightened by how a person looks or acts, but since this IS fantasy and not reality, should we not be allowed to explore a bit of fantasy once in a while. As someone recently mentioned to me, this site reminded him of the Holodeck technology on Star Trek. As a Trek fan, let me explain that the holodeck permitted the simulation of virtually any environment or person with a degree of fidelity virtually indestinguishable from reality. Holodecks were used for a wide variety of recreational, sports and training applications. Star Trek producer-writer Ronald D. Moore once argued that in a free society of responsible citizens, there should be little or no limit on what an adult can do in a holodeck. Even if others might find certain activities objectionable, what one does in one's private space is no one else's business; certainly not the government's.Of the argument that certain activities should be prohibited on the grounds that they might be harmful or addictive to a holodeck participant, Moore suggests that in a free society, a responsible adult must be permitted to judge risks to his or her own well-being, and to act accordingly. (Some visitors have pointed out that the holodecks did have safeguards to prevent anyone from harming themselves. I was aware of this. I was talking more along the lines of psychological risks.. like holo-addiction and running away from reality, etc. But thanks for the input.) But IMVU may sometimes seem as real as reality, as it did in the Star Trek holodecks and holosuites. Sometimes the emotions we feel are real, or they seem real. In episode 11 season 6 of Star Trek Voyager called "Fair Haven", Captain Janeway even found herself falling in love with the holographic character Michael Sullivan. So even if everything is possible, care must be taken so as not to become lost and overtaken by the virtual reality of the holonovel, or holoadventure and thus lose sight of reality. Holodiction (contraction for Holodeck addiction) is a real psychological condition where the individual becomes so caught up in holographic simulations that the real world becomes unimportant. So let's chat, dress up, make friends, and enjoy our fantasies, but let's be safe, and stay focused on reality too people! ....................................................

So here's to Paul Kersey the Death Wish street vigilante, Frank Castle the Punisher, Batman, Zorro, Robert McCall the Equalizer, and all the rest of em.
