This has been brought to my attention and EVERYONE PLEASE READ. (this message has been copied and posted)
I have spoke with a member of IMVU's staff and they have alerted me to keep an eye out for someone phishing accounts.
What this is, for those who maybe unaware, is a hack where the hacker replicates a website that requires a name and password. They CANNOT make it the homepage of a websites homepage. You have no fear of signing into IMVU from the main homepage. Instead they make a replica of the page that is displayed when you enter a name or password wrong. In all actuality you are logged into the IMVU server but this acts as an interrupt and displays before the greeting page is displayed. It can be placed anywhere though, such as if they leave a link on your page that directs you to the log in screen.
When you reenter your name and password that data is sent to another site that the hacker has set up so that he may view it. Then he/she simply logs in as you and can do as he/she pleases (i.e. delete your account).
My advice to you all. Should you encounter a screen asking for your name and password at anytime that is not the homepage, please either click on the IMVU symbol to go to their homepage (should this fail you know it is almost certainly a hack), or reenter the IMVU URL (www.imvu.com) or your personal homepage address (avatars.imvu.com/insertavatarnamehere). From there you know how to look and see if you are logged onto the website.
You have all been warned straight from IMVU itself. Fortunately I know how the hack works and was able to tell you what it is and how to prevent it, more then they were willing to give up. Please be careful my Brothers and Sisters. alert all you know. I hate to see anyone fall prey to this scam.
