Never forget role
play is a game. It’s supposed to be fun. When the role play stops being
fun than we need to talk Out-Of-Character, or OOC about it. It is true
that everyone has fun in different ways, but if your kind of fun is making
other players not have fun then this may not be the right place for you.
Safe Play
Safe Play means no
permanent harm can come to any player's character unless that player has
agreed ahead of time to the harm. This is NOT an area of technicality.
If you have not given a player full disclosure about the intended harm and
then try and add after effects, or permanent effects to their character,
you are in the wrong and your after effects / permanent effects will
rightly be ignored.
Own
the Action, Not the Effect
As a player you can describe
any action in as much detail as you like making suggestions to how other
characters might react, but you can not post and action that predetermines
another Player’s Character’s reaction. owning the effect is called Auto-hitting
Auto-hitting will be ignored.
Examples of
Auto-hitting:
“I swing my
deadly sword cutting off your arm.” “The acid rain falls in the area
burning everyone it touches.”
Examples
of?Owning the Action:
“I swing my
deadly sword its blade swiftly moving to your arm threatening to cut it
off”. “The acid rain falls in the area, each drop with the potential
to burn whatever it touches.”
Learn the Form
Text role play
works because of a code of text rules that are accepted by all players.
The basic form is very simple to follow. OOC means "Out of
character" IC means "In Character"
Keep all OOC
comments within brackets, Parenthesis or double lines so that all readers
can clearly see that you are speaking to them and not the play.
If its not an OOC
comment then its IC, and is what your character is actually saying/doing.
Separate your actions from your speaking.
I prefer book text
adding quotes to my characters dialog. Others place marks before and after
their actions. Such accepted marks are:* , : , :: , - ,
//
As Long as you can
clearly read a difference between an action and spoken words its good
form. Many Use this Symbol ~ to imply telepathy.
If you can't be
bothered to learn and use the form or to separate your OOC comments then
don't play
Real Life
Belongs Outside of Play
If you had a bad
day, I welcome you to tell me about it ooc, we can even have a private
chat about it.
If -however- you
and player X used to be IC lovers, and now your mad at player X
rather than that players character, for something that happened outside of
play, and you want to get the other players to gang up on player X
or just want to be rude, pouty, and pissy. DO NOT ENTER THE ROLEPLAY.
If your in my
rooms and Do this I will Boot you! If you have a REAL LIFE Illness, my
character can't heal you. Role play can not solve any Real Life problems.
So keep your Real Life out of My Role Play. [This is what other rooms
will call their No Drama rule]
Respect the
Players
Respect the Play
Ok this is a
simple rule that covers a lot. If there is lag, take off your heavy items.
Ask to play music. Acknowledge each others posts. Say Hello when you enter
and good bye when you leave. No Name calling. If someone's play is messing
with yours, talk to them ooc politely. YES you can take back an action in
any of my rooms. Be patient with new players and refer them to this rule
post and the school for New role players. Remember that there are Real
People with Real feelings, and Real issues behind the pixels.
Respect the
Rooms
Often players have invested much time and resources into
opening and maintaining a room. Each room will have its own little rules
and restrictions. Find out that they are and follow them. If you can't
follow them then don't enter the room. For example if someone is hosting a
peaceful celebration party in a room warded against evil, then don't bring
your evil character into that room at that time. If you do your posts will
be ignored if your are not immediately booted.
